La Opinión Endorses Senator Holly Mitchell for Los Angeles County Supervisor
LOS ANGELES - The largest Spanish-language newspaper in the United States, La Opinión, announced their endorsement of Holly Mitchell to serve as Los Angeles County Supervisor for the Second District. La Opinión is the latest news outlet to endorse Holly Mitchell, along with the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Daily News, and the Daily Breeze.
"Mitchell will bring to the Board her progressive vision, her tireless work for those most neglected by justice, and her political independence," the endorsement reads.
La Opinión highlights Mitchell’s successful efforts to protect teachers and social services from budget cuts at the state level during the COVID-19 pandemic. The paper also commends her record in the state Senate where she authored bills to reduce the sentencing gap between powder and crack cocaine, limit the assets police can seize from people not convicted of a crime, and expand access to contraception.
The paper concludes by saying, “It will be a privilege to have her on the Board of Supervisors. So vote for Holly Mitchell for Los Angeles County Supervisor!”
In response to receiving this endorsement, Mitchell shared "La Opinión has been vital to keeping our communities connected and informed. I am honored to have their trust in my ability to serve their readers across the Second Supervisorial District and to create a more just and equitable Los Angeles County."
Holly Mitchell has earned the support of prominent figures and organizations in the Latinx community, including the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles PAC, Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, Congresswoman Nanette Díaz Barragán, Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, State Senator Lena Gonzalez, Dolores Huerta, and Mitchell's former opponent, social-entrepreneur Jorge Nuño.
